Process Management

OHS can only be achieved through management of the work process and must be integrated into all work activities. There should be a systematic process for the development of control methods that minimise OHS risks. Hazardous operations or locations should be strictly controlled, and plant and equipment should be regularly inspected and serviced. In a large and often complex enterprise, system-based control methods are superior to reliance upon the judgement and ‘common sense’ of individuals.

Issues addressed by this category are:

    (a) Effective control systems (hierarchy)
    (b) Systematic maintenance
    (c) Emergency planning/response
    (d) Effective supervision
    (e) Workplace inspections
    (f) Health, welfare and First Aid
    (g) Rehabilitation
